Vocabulario tech en ingles: 200 terminos que todo developer necesita

Si trabajas en tecnologia, una buena parte de tu comunicacion laboral en ingles gira alrededor de terminos muy especificos. El problema no es que no los conozcas en espanol: el problema es que en las reuniones, los Slack channels y los pull requests, estos terminos aparecen en ingles y hay que usarlos con fluidez y en el contexto correcto.

Frontend

DOM - Document Object Model. La representacion en memoria de los elementos de una pagina web. "We need to update the DOM without triggering a full re-render."

render - Proceso de generar la interfaz visible a partir del codigo. "This component renders conditionally based on user permissions."

hydration (pronunciar: hai-DREY-shon) - Proceso de activar JavaScript en HTML pre-renderizado del servidor. "The page hydration is causing a flash of unstyled content."

layout shift - Movimiento inesperado de elementos en pantalla al cargar. "We need to fix the layout shift on mobile - it's hurting our CLS score."

viewport - La parte visible de la pagina en el navegador del usuario. "On small viewports, we hide the sidebar by default."

lazy loading - Carga diferida de recursos hasta que se necesitan. "We added lazy loading to all images below the fold."

debounce - Tecnica para limitar la frecuencia de ejecucion de una funcion. "Add a debounce to the search input so we're not firing requests on every keystroke."

throttle - Similar al debounce pero garantiza ejecucion a intervalos regulares. "We throttled the scroll event listener to improve performance."

event listener - Funcion que responde a un evento del usuario o el navegador. "There's a memory leak because we're not removing event listeners on unmount."

props - Datos que se pasan de un componente padre a uno hijo. "Don't mutate props directly - use state instead."

state - Datos internos de un componente que pueden cambiar. "The loading state should be true while the request is in flight."

hook - Funcion especial en React que permite usar estado y efectos. "We built a custom hook for all our API calls."

bundle - El archivo final con todo el codigo JavaScript del proyecto. "The bundle size is too large - we need to split it."

tree shaking - Eliminacion de codigo no utilizado al construir el bundle. "Tree shaking removed 40KB from our production bundle."

SSR (Server-Side Rendering) - Renderizado de HTML en el servidor antes de enviarlo al cliente. "We switched to SSR to improve SEO and initial load time."

SSG (Static Site Generation) - Generacion de HTML estatico en tiempo de build. "The blog uses SSG - pages are pre-built at deploy time."

CSR (Client-Side Rendering) - Renderizado en el navegador del usuario. "The dashboard uses CSR since it's behind auth and doesn't need SEO."

accessibility (a11y) - Conjunto de practicas para que el producto sea usable por todos. "We need to add ARIA labels to the modal for screen reader accessibility."

responsive design - Diseno que se adapta a diferentes tamaños de pantalla. "The responsive design broke on tablets - there's a missing breakpoint."

breakpoint - Ancho de pantalla en que cambia el layout. "Add a breakpoint at 768px for the tablet layout."

Backend

endpoint - URL especifica de una API que acepta solicitudes. "The /users endpoint accepts GET and POST requests."

payload - Datos enviados en el cuerpo de una solicitud o respuesta. "The request payload includes the user ID and the action type."

middleware - Funcion que procesa solicitudes entre el cliente y el handler final. "Authentication is handled by middleware before reaching any route."

rate limiting - Restriccion de cuantas solicitudes puede hacer un cliente en un periodo. "We added rate limiting to the login endpoint to prevent brute force."

idempotent (pronunciar: ai-DEM-po-tent) - Una operacion que da el mismo resultado sin importar cuantas veces se ejecute. "DELETE requests should be idempotent."

pagination - Division de resultados en paginas. "The API supports cursor-based pagination for large datasets."

caching - Almacenamiento temporal de resultados para evitar recalcularlos. "We're caching the user profile for 5 minutes to reduce DB load."

cache invalidation - Proceso de marcar entradas de cache como obsoletas. "Cache invalidation is the tricky part - we need to clear it on any profile update."

ORM (Object-Relational Mapper) - Capa de abstraccion entre el codigo y la base de datos. "We use Prisma as our ORM - it generates types from the schema automatically."

migration - Script que modifica la estructura de la base de datos. "Run the migration before deploying - it adds the new column."

transaction - Grupo de operaciones DB que se ejecutan juntas o no se ejecutan. "Wrap the balance update in a transaction to avoid partial writes."

index - Estructura de datos que acelera consultas en una tabla. "Add an index on the email column - queries are too slow without it."

seed - Datos iniciales para poblar una base de datos nueva. "Run the seed script to populate the local DB with test data."

webhook - Solicitud HTTP enviada automaticamente cuando ocurre un evento. "The payment provider sends a webhook when a subscription is confirmed."

JWT (JSON Web Token) - Token compacto para autenticacion y transmision de claims. "The JWT expires after 24 hours - refresh it with the refresh token."

OAuth - Protocolo de autorizacion que permite acceso delegado. "We use OAuth to let users log in with their Google account."

CORS (Cross-Origin Resource Sharing) - Mecanismo que controla acceso entre dominios. "Add the frontend domain to the CORS whitelist."

environment variable - Variable de configuracion externa al codigo. "Never hardcode API keys - use environment variables."

graceful shutdown - Proceso de cerrar un servidor sin cortar conexiones activas. "The server handles SIGTERM for a graceful shutdown."

health check - Endpoint que confirma que el servicio esta funcionando. "The load balancer pings /health every 30 seconds."

DevOps e infraestructura

deployment - Proceso de llevar codigo a un entorno (staging, produccion). "The deployment is blocked by a failing test in CI."

pipeline - Secuencia automatizada de pasos para build, test y deploy. "Our CI pipeline runs lint, tests and a security scan on every PR."

container - Unidad de software empaquetada con sus dependencias. "Each service runs in its own container."

image - Plantilla a partir de la cual se crea un container. "Build the Docker image before running the container locally."

orchestration - Gestion automatizada de multiples containers. "We use Kubernetes for container orchestration."

load balancer - Distribuye el trafico entre multiples servidores. "The load balancer routes traffic to the healthiest instance."

autoscaling - Ajuste automatico de la cantidad de instancias segun la carga. "Autoscaling kicked in during the campaign and we handled 10x normal traffic."

rollback - Volver a una version anterior despues de un problema. "We did a rollback after the deploy caused a spike in errors."

blue-green deployment - Estrategia de despliegue con dos entornos alternos. "Blue-green deployment lets us switch traffic instantly if something goes wrong."

canary release - Despliegue gradual a un porcentaje de usuarios. "We're doing a canary release to 5% of users first."

zero downtime deployment - Deploy sin corte de servicio para los usuarios. "Our process supports zero downtime deployments using rolling updates."

infrastructure as code (IaC) - Definicion de infraestructura en archivos de codigo versionables. "All our infrastructure is defined in Terraform - no manual changes."

monitoring - Observacion continua del comportamiento del sistema. "We use Datadog for monitoring latency and error rates."

alerting - Notificaciones automaticas cuando algo sale mal. "Set up an alert if error rate exceeds 1% for more than 2 minutes."

observability - Capacidad de entender el estado interno del sistema desde sus salidas. "Good observability means we can diagnose issues without SSH-ing into the server."

SLA (Service Level Agreement) - Compromiso formal de disponibilidad o performance. "Our SLA guarantees 99.9% uptime."

SLO (Service Level Objective) - Meta interna de calidad de servicio. "The SLO for this service is 200ms p99 latency."

incident - Evento no planeado que afecta el servicio. "We had an incident last night - the on-call engineer resolved it in 45 minutes."

post-mortem - Analisis escrito de un incidente para aprender de el. "The post-mortem identified three contributing factors."

on-call - Turno de disponibilidad para responder incidentes. "I'm on-call this weekend."

Data e inteligencia artificial

pipeline (data) - Flujo de transformacion de datos de origen a destino. "The data pipeline runs every hour and loads fresh data into the warehouse."

data warehouse - Repositorio centralizado para analisis de datos historicos. "We store all events in the data warehouse for BI reporting."

ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) - Proceso de mover y transformar datos. "The ETL job extracts from the production DB and loads into Redshift."

schema - Estructura de una base de datos o dataset. "The schema changed in v2 - update your queries."

query - Consulta a una base de datos. "This query is slow - let's add an index or rewrite it."

aggregation - Calculo que resume multiples valores (suma, promedio, etc.). "The aggregation groups sales by region and month."

feature (ML) - Variable de entrada para un modelo de machine learning. "User tenure and activity frequency are strong features for churn prediction."

training data - Datos usados para entrenar un modelo. "The model needs more balanced training data - we're overfitting to one class."

inference - Proceso de usar un modelo entrenado para hacer predicciones. "Inference latency is under 50ms on average."

embedding - Representacion numerica densa de datos (texto, imagen, etc.). "We store embeddings in a vector database for semantic search."

prompt - Instruccion o texto de entrada a un modelo de lenguaje. "The prompt needs to be more specific - the model is giving generic answers."

hallucination - Cuando un modelo genera informacion incorrecta con confianza. "Add a RAG layer to reduce hallucination by grounding answers in real data."

fine-tuning - Ajuste de un modelo pre-entrenado para una tarea especifica. "We fine-tuned the model on our domain data to improve accuracy."

token (AI) - Unidad de procesamiento de texto en modelos de lenguaje. "This request uses about 800 tokens - watch the context window limit."

RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) - Combinacion de recuperacion de informacion y generacion. "RAG gives the model access to up-to-date documents without retraining."

MVP (Minimum Viable Product) - La version mas simple del producto que valida la hipotesis central. "We shipped the MVP in six weeks with just the core flow."

user story - Descripcion de una funcionalidad desde la perspectiva del usuario. "The user story says: as a manager, I want to export reports as CSV."

acceptance criteria - Condiciones que una feature debe cumplir para considerarse completa. "The acceptance criteria aren't clear - let's clarify with the PM before starting."

edge case - Caso extremo o poco frecuente que puede causar problemas. "What's the edge case when the user has no payment method saved?"

happy path - El flujo ideal cuando todo funciona correctamente. "The happy path works. Now let's test the error states."

friction - Dificultad o esfuerzo que siente el usuario al usar el producto. "There's too much friction in the onboarding - we're losing users at step 3."

funnel - Secuencia de pasos que lleva al usuario a una conversion. "The conversion funnel drops 60% at the payment step."

churn - Usuarios que dejan de usar el producto. "Churn increased after the pricing change."

retention - Proporcion de usuarios que siguen usando el producto en el tiempo. "Day-7 retention is at 35% - we need to improve the activation experience."

NPS (Net Promoter Score) - Metrica de lealtad y satisfaccion del cliente. "Our NPS dropped 10 points after the UI redesign."

A/B test - Experimento que compara dos versiones de algo. "We're running an A/B test on the CTA copy."

feature flag - Switch que activa o desactiva una feature sin redeploy. "The new checkout is behind a feature flag - enable it for 10% of users."

dogfooding - Usar tu propio producto internamente antes de lanzarlo. "We've been dogfooding the new dashboard for two weeks."

stakeholder - Cualquier persona con interes en el resultado del proyecto. "Align with all stakeholders before committing to the timeline."

sprint - Periodo de trabajo fijo (generalmente dos semanas). "This is going into next sprint - the current one is already full."

backlog - Lista priorizada de trabajo pendiente. "Let's groom the backlog before the sprint planning session."

grooming / refinement - Proceso de revisar y detallar items del backlog. "During grooming, we break epics into user stories and estimate them."

sprint planning - Reunion al inicio del sprint para definir el trabajo. "Sprint planning is Monday at 10am."

standup - Reunion diaria corta de sincronizacion del equipo. "Keep the standup under 15 minutes."

retrospective (retro) - Reunion al final del sprint para mejorar el proceso. "In the retro, we identified that our definition of done was unclear."

velocity - Cantidad de trabajo que completa el equipo por sprint. "Our velocity has been steady at 40 points per sprint."

story points - Unidad relativa de esfuerzo para estimar trabajo. "This task is a 5 - it's similar in complexity to the one we did last sprint."

epic - Funcionalidad grande que se divide en historias mas pequeñas. "The billing epic has 12 user stories."

definition of done (DoD) - Criterios que debe cumplir algo para considerarse terminado. "Code review, tests passing and docs updated - that's our definition of done."

blocker - Impedimento que impide avanzar. "I have a blocker - I need access to the staging environment."

spike - Tarea exploratoria para reducir incertidumbre tecnica. "Let's do a spike to evaluate the two authentication libraries before committing."

kanban - Sistema de gestion visual del flujo de trabajo. "We switched from sprints to kanban for the support team."

WIP limit (Work in Progress) - Limite de tareas en progreso simultaneas. "Our WIP limit is 3 per person to reduce context switching."

burndown chart - Grafico de trabajo restante vs tiempo en un sprint. "The burndown chart shows we're behind - we need to descope something."

CI/CD (Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery) - Practicas de integracion y entrega automatizada continua. "Every PR triggers the CI/CD pipeline automatically."

code review (CR) - Revision del codigo por otro desarrollador antes de mergear. "Left some comments on your CR - nothing blocking."

pull request (PR) - Propuesta de cambio de codigo para revision e integracion. "Open a PR when you're done and tag me as reviewer."

merge - Integracion de una rama de codigo en otra. "Merge after two approvals."

branch - Copia independiente del codigo para trabajar sin afectar el principal. "Create a feature branch for this - don't work directly on main."

rebase - Operacion para reescribir el historial de commits. "Rebase your branch on main before opening the PR."

tech debt - Trabajo tecnico que se pospone y acumula interes con el tiempo. "We need to allocate time to pay down tech debt before adding more features."

Estos no son terminos de codigo, pero son los que van a aparecer en tus Slacks, emails y reuniones:

bandwidth (en sentido figurado) - Disponibilidad o capacidad de una persona. "I don't have the bandwidth for that this week."

sync - Reunion o conversacion de alineacion. "Can we have a quick sync tomorrow?"

async - Comunicacion sin necesidad de respuesta inmediata. "Let's handle this async - I'll document my findings in Notion."

heads up - Aviso anticipado sobre algo. "Just a heads up - we're changing the API contract next week."

loop in - Incluir a alguien en una conversacion. "Loop in the design team before we finalize the specs."

align - Asegurarse de que todos esten de acuerdo. "Let's align on priorities before the quarter starts."

deep dive - Analisis detallado de un tema. "We need a deep dive into the performance issues."

trade-off - Equilibrio entre dos opciones o valores que se oponen. "There's a trade-off between speed and accuracy here."

leverage (verbo) - Aprovechar algo existente. "We can leverage the existing infrastructure instead of building from scratch."

scalable - Que puede crecer sin degradar su funcionamiento. "The current architecture isn't scalable past 10k concurrent users."
