Las preposiciones: el detalle que te delata

Podes tener un vocabulario excelente y una gramatica solida, pero si usas mal las preposiciones, suenan raro. "I am agree", "I arrived to the office", "I am interested on this": estos errores son tipicos de hispanohablantes y son faciles de corregir.

Las preposiciones en ingles no se traducen una a una del espanol. Funcionan con su propia logica y hay que aprenderlas en contexto. Esta guia te explica las reglas principales y te da los ejemplos que mas necesitas.

In, on, at: la triada esencial

Estas tres preposiciones son las mas usadas y las que mas confusion generan. La clave es entender que expresan distintos niveles de especificidad.

Preposiciones de tiempo

Excepciones importantes:

• at night (no "in night")
• in the morning/afternoon/evening pero at night
• at the weekend (British English) / on the weekend (American English)

For vs since (tiempo)

• for indica duracion: I have worked here for three years.
• since indica punto de inicio: I have worked here since 2021.

To vs at vs in (movimiento)

• go to (movimiento hacia un lugar): I'm going to the office.
• arrive at (llegar a un punto): I arrived at the airport.
• arrive in (llegar a una ciudad/pais): I arrived in New York.

By vs until (limite de tiempo)

• by = antes de cierto momento (deadline): Send it by Friday.
• until = hasta cierto momento (duracion): I'll work until 6 PM.

Preposiciones con adjetivos comunes

Muchas combinaciones de adjetivo + preposicion no se traducen literalmente:

Errores comunes de hispanohablantes

Error 1: "I am agree" → I agree

Agree es un verbo, no un adjetivo. No lleva "be". Correcto: I agree with your point.

Error 2: "Arrived to" → arrived at/in

Arrive se usa con at (lugares puntuales) o in (ciudades/paises), nunca con to. Correcto: I arrived at the office. / I arrived in London.

Error 3: "Interested on" → interested in

Correcto: I'm interested in this position.

Error 4: "Since three years" → for three years

Since requiere un punto en el tiempo (2021, January), no una duracion. Correcto: I have worked here for three years. / since 2021.

Error 5: "Married with" → married to

Correcto: She is married to a software engineer.

Las preposiciones aparecen todo el tiempo en el trabajo. Estos son los contextos mas comunes:

En emails:

"Thank you for your email. I'm writing in response to your inquiry about our services. Please find attached the document you asked for."

En tu CV o LinkedIn:

"Experienced in agile methodologies. Responsible for a team of 10 engineers. Specialized in machine learning."

En entrevistas:

"I'm interested in this role because I'm passionate about fintech. In my current position, I'm responsible for three key accounts."

En reuniones:

"Can we agree on a timeline by Friday? I insist on having a backup plan. Let's focus on the main objective."
