El first conditional: hablar de posibilidades reales

"If we close this deal, we'll expand the team." "If I pass the interview, I'm taking the job." Estas oraciones son ejemplos del first conditional, y las vas a escuchar constantemente en cualquier ambiente laboral angloparlante.

El first conditional en ingles se usa para hablar de situaciones posibles o probables en el futuro. No son hipoteticos ni irreales, sino escenarios que realmente pueden pasar.

Estructura del first conditional

La formula es: If + presente simple, will + infinitivo

If the client approves the design, we will start production next week. If you study consistently, you will improve fast. If it rains tomorrow, we will cancel the outdoor event.

Importante: la clausula con "if" puede ir al principio o al final de la oracion. Si va al principio, se separa con coma. Si va al final, no hay coma:

Con coma: If we meet the deadline, the client will be happy. Sin coma: The client will be happy if we meet the deadline.

Variaciones del first conditional

No siempre se usa "will". Hay otras opciones dependiendo del matiz:

Con "going to" (plan mas concreto): If we get the budget, we're going to hire two developers.

Con modales (posibilidad, recomendacion): If you finish early, you can leave. (permiso) If you have questions, you should ask now. (recomendacion) If he calls, I might answer. (posibilidad menor)

Con imperativo (instruccion): If you see an error, report it immediately.

First conditional vs second conditional

Esta es la confusion mas comun:

	First conditional	Second conditional
Realidad	Posible/probable	Hipotetico/improbable
Estructura	If + presente simple, will	If + pasado simple, would
Ejemplo	If I get the job, I'll accept.	If I got the job, I would accept.

First conditional: la situacion es posible. Hay una chance real de que pase. If it rains tomorrow, I'll take an umbrella. (puede llover - es posible)

Second conditional: la situacion es hipotetica o improbable ahora. If I won the lottery, I would travel the world. (probablemente no voy a ganar)

Errores comunes de hispanohablantes

Error 1: Usar "will" en la clausula con "if"

Incorrecto: If it will rain, we will cancel. Correcto: If it rains, we will cancel.

La clausula con "if" usa presente simple, nunca "will".

Error 2: Confundir first y second conditional

Si la situacion es posible: first conditional. Si es hipotetica o improbable: second conditional.

Error 3: Olvidar la coma cuando "if" va primero

Incorrecto: If you need help I can assist you. Correcto: If you need help, I can assist you.

Error 4: Usar subjuntivo espanol

En espanol decis "Si llueve manana..." (indicativo). En ingles igual: If it rains tomorrow... No uses formas raras como "If it would rain...".

En el contexto laboral

El first conditional es muy comun en negociaciones, planificacion y presentaciones.

En negociaciones:

"If you increase the budget by 10%, we can deliver two weeks earlier." "If we agree today, I'll send the contract by tomorrow."

En planificacion:

"If the tests pass on Friday, we'll deploy to production next week." "If we don't receive the approval, we'll need to push the launch date."

En entrevistas:

"If I join your team, I will bring three years of experience in data analysis." "If given the opportunity, I will focus on improving team efficiency."

En presentaciones:

"If we implement this strategy, we will reduce costs by 15%." "If we don't act now, we will lose market share to competitors."
