Por que la voz pasiva es clave en el ingles profesional

Lees un email en ingles y ves: "The report has been approved." O en una reunion escuchas: "The decision was made by the board." Esa es la voz pasiva, y en el ingles profesional la vas a encontrar en todos lados.

La passive voice (voz pasiva) se usa cuando el foco esta en la accion o en quien la recibe, no en quien la hace. Es muy comun en textos formales, reportes, emails corporativos y descripcion de procesos.

Voz activa vs voz pasiva

La diferencia fundamental:

Voz activa: el sujeto hace la accion. The manager approved the budget. (El gerente aprobo el presupuesto.)

Voz pasiva: el sujeto recibe la accion. The budget was approved (by the manager). (El presupuesto fue aprobado por el gerente.)

Cuando usas la voz pasiva, el agente (quien hace la accion) puede omitirse si no es importante o no se sabe.

Estructura de la voz pasiva

La formula es: sujeto + verbo to be (conjugado) + participio pasado

Para saber el tiempo verbal, fijate en el verbo to be:

Presente simple	They fix bugs.	Bugs are fixed.
Pasado simple	She wrote the report.	The report was written.
Presente perfecto	They have approved it.	It has been approved.
Futuro con will	They will send the invoice.	The invoice will be sent.

Como transformar una oracion a voz pasiva

Paso a paso:

1. El objeto de la oracion activa se convierte en sujeto de la pasiva.
2. El verbo to be se conjuga en el mismo tiempo que el verbo original.
3. El verbo principal pasa a participio pasado.
4. El sujeto original puede mencionarse con "by" o eliminarse.

Ejemplo:

Activa: The CEO (sujeto) announced (verbo) the new policy (objeto). Pasiva: The new policy (nuevo sujeto) was announced (to be + participio) by the CEO.

Otro ejemplo:

Activa: Engineers are testing the software. Pasiva: The software is being tested (by engineers).

Cuando usar la voz pasiva

Cuando el agente es desconocido: My laptop was stolen. (No se sabe quien lo robo.)

Cuando el agente es obvio o irrelevante: The meeting has been scheduled for Thursday. (No importa quien lo programo.)

Para sonar mas formal o imparcial: Mistakes were made in the original estimate. (Tipico en reportes corporativos.)

Para describir procesos: The data is collected, analyzed and then presented to stakeholders.

Errores comunes de hispanohablantes

Error 1: Usar el participio incorrecto

Incorrecto: The report was write by the analyst. Correcto: The report was written by the analyst.

Necesitas el participio pasado, no el pasado simple. Para verbos irregulares, estudia la lista de verbos irregulares.

Error 2: Olvidar el verbo to be

Incorrecto: The project approved last week. Correcto: The project was approved last week.

Error 3: Traducir literalmente el espanol

En espanol usamos mucho "se" reflexivo: "Se envio el correo." En ingles no existe ese patron - tenes que usar la pasiva: "The email was sent."

Error 4: Usar la pasiva donde no corresponde

La voz pasiva hace el ingles mas formal y a veces mas distante. En conversacion casual, la voz activa suena mas natural.

"The survey was conducted among 500 participants." "All data has been anonymized before analysis." "Three scenarios were evaluated and the most cost-effective option was selected."

En emails:

"Your request has been received and is being processed." "The invoice has been sent to your email address." "Your account has been updated successfully."

En reuniones:

"Has the proposal been approved?" "The launch date has been pushed back to Q2." "The new process was designed to reduce errors."

En entrevistas:

"I was promoted to team lead after two years." "Our product was featured in TechCrunch last year." "The project was delivered ahead of schedule."
