En cualquier contexto profesional, comparar opciones y destacar lo mejor es fundamental. Los comparativos y superlativos en ingles son la herramienta para hacerlo, y tienen reglas bastante sistematicas.

Esta guia te explica todo, desde los adjetivos mas simples hasta los irregulares que todos confunden.

La diferencia entre comparativo y superlativo

Comparativo: compara dos cosas entre si.

• Our product is cheaper than theirs. (dos cosas)
• This approach is more efficient than the previous one.

Superlativo: destaca una cosa sobre todas las demas en un grupo.

• This is the cheapest option on the market. (una cosa vs todas)
• She is the most experienced person on the team.

Reglas para formar comparativos

Adjetivos cortos (una silaba, o dos silabas que terminan en -y)

Agrega -er para el comparativo y -est para el superlativo.

Reglas ortograficas:

• Adjetivos que terminan en consonante-vocal-consonante: dobla la consonante final. big - bigger - biggest / hot - hotter - hottest

• Adjetivos que terminan en -e: agrega solo -r / -st. large - larger - largest / nice - nicer - nicest

• Adjetivos que terminan en -y: cambia la y por i. easy - easier - easiest / busy - busier - busiest / early - earlier - earliest

Adjetivos largos (dos o mas silabas, excepto los que terminan en -y)

Usa more para el comparativo y most para el superlativo.

Adjetivos irregulares: los que rompen todas las reglas

Estos hay que memorizarlos porque no siguen ningun patron:

good	better	the best
bad	worse	the worst
far	farther / further	the farthest / furthest
little (cantidad)	less	the least
many / much	more	the most

This is a better solution. / It's the best option we have. The situation is worse than last month. / It was the worst quarter in two years.

La estructura con "than" y "the"

Comparativo + than:

Our app is faster than the competitor's. She has more experience than the other candidates. This version is worse than the previous one.

The + superlativo + (in / of):

This is the most efficient process in the industry. She is the best programmer in the team. It was the worst decision of the year.

Nota: "in" se usa para lugares y grupos: the best in the team, the fastest in the market. "Of" se usa para periodos y conjuntos: the best of the year, the worst of all options.

Comparaciones de igualdad: as...as

Para decir que dos cosas son iguales en algo:

as + adjetivo + as

This solution is as effective as the other one. (igual de efectiva) I am as confident in English as I am in Spanish.

Para decir que no son iguales:

This option is not as expensive as I thought. Remote work is not as easy as it looks.

Errores comunes de hispanohablantes

Error 1: Doble comparativo

Incorrecto: This is more better. Correcto: This is better.

Nunca uses more con un adjetivo que ya tiene -er. Es redundante.

Error 2: Olvidar "than" en la comparacion

Incorrecto: Our product is cheaper. Correcto (si compara con algo): Our product is cheaper than the competition.

Si no mencionas con que comparas, no necesitas "than". Pero si hay dos elementos, siempre va "than".

Error 3: Usar el superlativo sin "the"

Incorrecto: She is most experienced person. Correcto: She is the most experienced person.

El superlativo siempre lleva the.

Error 4: Confundir adjetivos de dos silabas

Los adjetivos de dos silabas que NO terminan en -y, como modern, careful, useful, usan more/most, no -er/-est.

Incorrecto: This is more usefuler. Correcto: This is more useful.

Ejercicios practicos

1. Forma el comparativo y superlativo de: smart, comfortable, bad, popular.
2. Completa: "This laptop is _______ (expensive) than the other model."
3. Completa: "She is _______ (good) developer we have."
4. Completa: "Is this job _______ (difficult) than your previous one?"
5. Completa: "This was _______ (bad) meeting of the quarter."

Respuestas:

1. smarter / smartest; more comfortable / most comfortable; worse / worst; more popular / most popular
2. more expensive
3. the best
4. more difficult
5. the worst

En el contexto laboral

En entrevistas laborales:

"This role offers better career development than my current position." "I am most skilled in backend development, but I can also handle frontend work." "Our team achieved the best results in the company last quarter."

En presentaciones y reuniones:

"Option A is more cost-effective than Option B, but Option C is the fastest to implement." "This quarter was better than the last one, but we still have room to improve." "The most important factor for our decision should be scalability."

En emails:

"Could you please provide a more detailed breakdown of the costs?" "We are looking for the most efficient solution within our budget." "The new process is faster and less error-prone than the previous one."
