Interviewer: Thanks for joining us today, Sofia. Can you start by telling me a little about yourself?

Sofia: Of course. I'm a backend developer with five years of experience, mainly working with Python and AWS. For the past two years, I've been at a fintech startup where I led the migration of our monolithic architecture to microservices. I'm now looking for a role where I can take on more technical leadership responsibilities.

Interviewer: That's great. Can you walk me through a technical challenge you faced in that migration?

Sofia: Sure. One of the biggest challenges was data consistency during the transition period. We had to keep both systems running in parallel for about three months, which created some complex synchronization issues. I proposed using an event-driven approach with Kafka, which ended up reducing our data lag from 30 seconds to under 500 milliseconds.

Interviewer: Impressive. And how do you handle working under pressure, especially when things break in production?

Sofia: I stay focused on containment first - stop the bleeding before you diagnose the cause. Then I communicate clearly with stakeholders about the status and estimated resolution time. I've found that calm, transparent communication during incidents builds a lot of trust with the team and with management.

    Vocabulario clave:

    • walk me through - explicame paso a paso
    • take on responsibilities - asumir responsabilidades
    • in parallel - en paralelo
    • stop the bleeding - frenar el daño inmediato

Scrum Master (Emma): Good morning everyone. Let's keep it short - yesterday, today, blockers. Lucas, you're up.

Lucas: Yesterday I finished the API integration for the payment module. Today I'm writing unit tests for the new endpoints. No blockers.

    Emma: Great. Priya?

Priya: Yesterday I was in design reviews most of the day. Today I'm finalizing the mockups for the checkout flow. I do have a blocker - I need input from Lucas on how error states should behave before I can finalize the error screens.

Emma: Lucas, can you connect with Priya after this?

Lucas: Absolutely. I'll ping you on Slack, Priya.

    Priya: Perfect.

Emma: Good. Anyone else have blockers before we wrap up?

    [Silence]

Emma: All good. See you all tomorrow.

    Vocabulario clave:

    • you're up - te toca a vos
    • blockers - impedimentos que frenan el trabajo
    • I'll ping you - te mando un mensaje
    • wrap up - terminar, cerrar
    • connect with someone - hablar con alguien, coordinar

Tom: Hey Camila, how's it going?

Camila: Pretty good, thanks! Busy week though. You?

Tom: Same here. Did you catch the all-hands yesterday?

Camila: I did. The new roadmap looks interesting. What did you think about the Q3 priorities they announced?

Tom: Honestly, I was a bit surprised they're pushing back the mobile app launch. I thought that was the big bet for this year.

Camila: Yeah, me too. But I get it - the team is stretched pretty thin right now. Better to do one thing well than rush everything.

Tom: That's fair. Hey, are you going to the team lunch on Friday?

Camila: I'm planning to, yeah. Should be fun - I haven't met half the new hires in person yet.

Tom: Same. See you there then!

    Vocabulario clave:

    • how's it going? - como te va?
    • did you catch...? - viste...?, te enteraste de...?
    • all-hands - reunion de toda la empresa
    • pushing back - postergando
    • stretched thin - con poca capacidad, muy ocupados
    • new hires - personas recien contratadas

Client (David): Hi, this is David from Northbridge. I'm calling because we're having an issue with the dashboard - some of our reports are not loading.

Support (Valeria): Hi David, thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that. Can you tell me when this started happening?

David: We first noticed it this morning around 9 AM Eastern. It's affecting three of our five report templates.

Valeria: Got it. And are you seeing any error messages, or does the page just load indefinitely?

David: It just spins. No error message.

Valeria: Okay, that's helpful. This sounds like it could be related to a caching issue we identified earlier today. Our engineering team is working on a fix right now. I'd estimate it should be resolved within the next two hours.

David: Two hours is fine. Should I do anything on my end in the meantime?

Valeria: You can try clearing your browser cache and doing a hard refresh - sometimes that helps. But if not, just sit tight and we'll send you an email confirmation once it's resolved.

David: Perfect. I appreciate the quick response.

Valeria: Of course. Is there anything else I can help you with today?

David: No, that's all. Thanks, Valeria.

    Vocabulario clave:

    • reaching out - contactarse, comunicarse
    • loads indefinitely - carga para siempre sin terminar
    • on my end - de mi lado, desde mi parte
    • in the meantime - mientras tanto
    • sit tight - esperar tranquilo, no hacer nada por ahora
    • I appreciate it - lo agradezco, gracias

Hiring Manager (Rachel): So, we'd like to extend you an offer. We're thinking about $85,000 base salary for this role. How does that sound?

Candidate (Nico): I'm really excited about the opportunity. I did want to discuss the compensation a bit, if that's okay. Based on my research and the responsibilities of the role, I was expecting something closer to $95,000. Is there flexibility there?

Rachel: I understand. Let me be transparent with you - we have a bit of room, but not all the way to $95K. We could go up to $90,000. And I should mention that our annual bonus structure typically adds another 10 to 15 percent on top of base for strong performers.

Nico: That's helpful context. At $90,000 with that bonus potential, I think we can make this work. Could we also revisit the salary after six months given the scope of the role?

Rachel: That's not something we typically do with new hires, but I can note it in the offer letter that we'll include your compensation in the performance review at the one-year mark.

Nico: That works for me. I'm very interested in moving forward.

    Vocabulario clave:

    • extend an offer - hacer una oferta formal
    • compensation - compensacion total (salario + beneficios)
    • is there flexibility? - hay margen para negociar?
    • let me be transparent - siendo honesto con vos
    • bonus structure - estructura de bonos
    • revisit - revisar, volver a evaluar

El acento va en "flexi": "Is there FLEXI-bility?"

    • Confirmar entendimiento: "Got it", "I see", "That makes sense"
    • Pedir clarificacion: "Can you walk me through...?", "What do you mean by...?"
    • Ganar tiempo: "That's a good question", "Let me think about that for a second"
    • Cerrar el tema: "Does that answer your question?", "Let me know if you need anything else"
